History of Costumes by Betty
I had loved to sew all my life. In 1966 I joined a clown club and I made my first clown suit. Then I was asked to make them for some of the members of the club. With my background and my love for sewing this was just what I needed. We were seen around town at various parades and activities.
Soon clowns from other clubs asked about our costumes. They wanted me to sew for them a couple years later the International Shrine Clown Association held their MidWinter Convention at the same time as our Winter
Carnival. Clowns across the country attended and requests for costumes started coming in from them. At that time 3 clowns from Texas approached me and asked if I could attend their local convention as a dealer. That was the beginning of my travels as a costume dealer.
I have attended conventions in nearly all of the 50 states. I have dealt in Nova Scotia, England, Puerto Rico, Japan, and many other places. Costumes by Betty has helped me experience my passions of sewing, creativity, interacting with people, and being able to help others discover their passions.
